It is a widely known fact that smoking is bad for your health. Aesthetically, the bad things about smoking include how the smell of the smoke permeates everything from your hair to your clothing and even your furniture and curtains. Smoking is bad because it stains your teeth and your fingers. It causes bad breath that even the strongest mint cannot mask.
Smoking is bad for you for a number of non-aesthetic reasons too. It is these reasons why the number of public bans on smoking is increasing. Why is smoking bad for you? It endangers your health – that’s the bottom line. There are many bad side effects of smoking like high occurrences of cancer, heart disease, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, poor circulation and reduction in bone density. Other reasons why smoking is bad for you include problems with fertility and impotence, premature aging and wrinkles, increased risk of ulcers, lower immunity, and low birth rate for babies born to a smoking mother and the list goes on. There are countless reasons why smoking is bad. Many of the reasons listed above are also reasons on how second hand smoking is bad too. Then you have some people who are a bit misinformed. Some teens think that if you smoke marijuana, it is not as bad for you as cigarettes. In fact, some ask if smoking weed is bad for an athlete, being since it isn’t a true cigarette. The fact of the matter is that marijuana in any shape or form is bad. You can and will get many of the same ailments as you would with cigarettes. And because marijuana is unfiltered, you get even more harmful toxins entering your lungs and coating them. There are quite a few other misconceptions as well stemming around smoking. The latest craze with teens is hookah smoking. They feel that since they are not puffing on an actual cigarette, that it is ok to puff the same carcinogens through some convoluted water pipe. Therefore, it seems that some people still need a few lessons and pointers about why smoking is bad for health. The bottom line is that smoking is bad for you no matter how you inhale it, whether through a cigarette, pipe or other means. Education is important in capturing the attention of the younger generation before they pick up the habit. They need to know explicitly why smoking is bad. Of course, battle peer pressure is part of the battle that many face when trying to education children and teens.
