Smoking is widely regarded as hazardous to your health and no one refutes that. And yet, why aren’t there more people trying to quit? If you only knew how smoking really affects the lungs you probably would quit cold turkey. The effects of smoking on the lungs are quite ghastly.
Some people say that they can quit any time they want to and yet they do not. This is called denial. What the real problem is addiction to nicotine. If only manufacturers were requiring pictures of tobacco smokers’ lungs on each package, some people might think twice about lighting up. Unfortunately, the delicate sensibilities of the general public may be offended so only written warnings are allowed. Who is going to read those? People know they are slowly killing themselves and know that they are developing the smokers’ lungs. How does smoking affect the lungs during the actual act of puffing? Do you know? One enterprising man has traveled the country giving talks about smoking and cancer and is not afraid of showing pictures of a smoker’s lung. He also does a demonstration putting a light cigarette on the end of a squeeze bottle to demonstrate just exactly how much smoke your lungs retain and how much you actually exhale Did you know that your smoking lungs are retaining as much as ninety percent of what you inhale? What you are polluting the air with is nothing compared to what you are polluting your body with each time you smoke. Pictures of smokers’ lungs look shriveled and black; it’s not a pretty sight. The black color on the smokers’ lungs is the tar that you are inhaling with each cigarette. It builds up over time and if you don’t contract lung cancer, you are sure to get emphysema of the lungs from smoking. When it comes to your health, smoking and lungs go hand in hand. Anything you breathe in goes through the lungs. So if the air your breath in contaminated with carcinogenic smoke, you are literally breathing in cancer with each and every breath of your smokers’ lungs. Will you immediately get cancer in your lungs after smoking? No, you won’t but that is only because it takes a long period of time. For some, that time period is shorter than others. Every once in a while, read the obituaries. You will see people who die every day from lung cancer. The surprising part is that some of them are young, as young as their twenties. Knowing you can die that young should certainly give you enough pause if the black smoker’s lungs do not.
